Things Didn’t Go According to Plan

One of the difficult things about being young is the expectation that life should be moving in a clear direction.

Study hard, practise hard, make the right friends, fall for the right person, and somehow know what you want to become. In reality, things rarely work out that neatly.

The characters in Limecrime, Heavy Snow, Hail to Hell, Baseball Girl, Jane, and Chorokbam all find themselves in uncertain situations. Some are trying to move forward but keep running into limits. Some want to get closer to another person, only to find the relationship becoming more complicated. Others try to leave one difficult situation behind and end up facing a different one.

For some, music or baseball becomes something to hold on to. For others, friendship, love, or simply finding somewhere to belong becomes more difficult than expected. A few set out hoping to change their circumstances, only to realise that things can easily become messier along the way.

What connects these films is that they do not rush to turn uncertainty into a clear lesson. Not every effort pays off. Not every relationship works out. Not every feeling leads somewhere.

Life simply continues.

There are still convenience stores, seaside trips, baseball fields, and temporary places to stay. There are still people trying to work out what to do next.

Things didn’t go according to plan. For now, they keep going.
