BIFF Selections
The Busan International Film Festival (BIFF), founded in 1996, is South Korea’s first international film festival and one of Asia’s largest and most influential cinematic gatherings, usually held in the coastal city of Busan each early autumn. Through its New Currents, A Window on Asian Cinema, Wide Angle, Open Cinema, and the Asian Contents & Film Market (ACFM), it brings diverse Asian audiovisual aesthetics and international auteur works to public audiences, serving as a pivotal hub for emerging Asian filmmakers to step onto the global stage.
Since its 1996 inception, the festival has championed independent Asian cinema and cross-cultural dialogue, continuously discovering and showcasing contemporary filmmaking grounded in artistic exploration and vital reality. This selection gathers CathayPlay titles that were screened or awarded at the festival, tracing the long and profound relationship between this central Asian film platform and Chinese independent cinema.
