Tan Chui Mui

TAN CHUI MUI, Malaysian Filmmaker / Artist. Her filmography includes “Barbarian Invasion”, “A Tree in Tanjung Malim”, “Love Conquers All”, and “Everyday Everyday”. Her art installation series “Emotion Machine” includes the AI photography project “Just Because You Pressed the Shutter?” and the poetry-machine installation “You Don’t Know What Love Is”. Her debut feature “Love Conquers All” won the New Currents Award and the FIPRESCI International Critics’ Award at the Busan International Film Festival. Her short film “Everyday Everyday” received the Grand Prix at the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival, while “Barbarian Invasion” won the Jury Grand Prize at the Shanghai International Film Festival. She has published a collection of writings spanning the ages of 15 to 40, titled “Peanuts and Tofu Together”. Her “Emotion Machine” art installation series includes “Just Because You Pressed the Shutter?” (2022), which won the Jimei × Arles Discovery Award; “You Don’t Know What Love Is” (2024), exhibited in France, China, and Malaysia; and a third work, “The Chinese Room”, currently in development. In 2025, she conducted seven editions of the “AI Short Film Creation” workshop.
