Tickets were hard to come by. On July 25th, during the 15th FIRST International Film Festival, CathayPlay will join hands with Jihe Space in Tangdao, Xining to present the screening of director Tan Chui Mui's early short films and an online discussion on literature and life. At the same time, director Tan Chui Mui will publish her new book "Peanuts and Tofu Together" in China. While literature is the art of detailed description through a cascade of words, sentences, and paragraphs, images resort to the beauty of motion and color. In this exchange, the three guests discussed the connection between literature and images. They exchanged their interpretation of literature, their understanding of life, and their self-expression through image-creation. They also talked about how they entered the world of literature, etiher in junior high school or in elementary school when they were attracted by the written text, and went on writing themselves. The images, too, are a form of text. The moderator and guests share about their own reading and movie-viewing habits, allowing the audience to see the personal side of the image creators and scholars. Zhang Xianmin teaches at the Beijing Film Academy, supervises and produces films such as "Manchurian Tiger", and stars in films such as "Rain Clouds over Wushan".
