Director‘s Statement:
Zhao Xiaolong is a young man from the Sino-Vietnamese border in Yunnan. His story reflects the confusion of many modern young people in China. He works hard and struggles, but he feels exhausted by the way of chasing fame and fortune spiritually. He yearns for idealism but is constrained by realism. These are the challenges he faces in this era.
Zhao Xiaolong's confusion of the times reflects the aversion of contemporary young people to the pursuit of fame and fortune. In traditional Chinese culture, the pursuit of fame and fortune is seen as a normal way of life, especially in Confucianism. However, in modern society, with the rapid development of market economy and capitalism, utilitarianism and personal interests have become the pursuit goals of many people, which is a heavy burden for some young people. They don't want to be victims of utilitarianism, and they don't want to be people who only care about their own interests, but pay more attention to the development of the society and the world in which they live.
In addition, Zhao Xiaolong also embodies the desire for idealism of modern young people. He wants to make a contribution, he wants to make more contributions to society, rather than just focusing on his own interests. His pursuit is not just the pursuit of money and material, but the pursuit of a more noble way of life. However, reality easily bound him, limiting his imagination and action. For many young people, the pressure of realism can make them forget their ideals and feel that their pursuit is futile.
In order to cope with this confusion of the times, young people need to examine their own ideas and explore their own life paths. They need to find a balance, an attitude that can realize their dreams while maintaining a realistic attitude. In this process, they need to constantly reflect on themselves, constantly find their inner voice, and then transform this voice into practical actions. At the same time, they also need to connect with other like-minded people to form a common community and work together to realize their ideals.
