Chinese Meet Africa

The documentary series Chinese Meet Africa is co-directed by Zhang Yong, a scholar specialized in African films and images at Zhejiang University, and Liang Zi, the first female Chinese cinematographer who deeply engaged with African society. Focusing on entrepreneurship, charity, art, life, and eventual return, this five-episode series delineates a collective image of Chinese people’s diligence, artistic pursuit, and humanitarian concerns, which closely tie individuals and the times, China and Africa together. Our production teams from both China and Africa capture the life of ordinary Chinese people and their attachment to the foreign continent that they dwell or once lived in, combined with stunning aerial and underwater shots. By telling the stories of China-Africa encounter from micro-perspectives, this work endeavors to promote mutual understanding and further exchange between the two.
