I made this short film because I am, in fact, one of the parties described in the story. Li Zheng’s struggle is my own—I constantly find myself drifting between feelings of resentment and guilt toward my mother.Beyond that, I am often struck by a sense of disbelief at the sheer depth of her silent sacrifice and devotion. To me, these are profound mysteries; I find myself obsessively pondering them, yet never quite grasping the answer. I wrote Forgive as a way to confront these enigmas, and ultimately, to bring them to life on screen.
