In a run-down Guangzhou community awaiting demolition, a man shelters his former classmate fleeing domestic abuse. They share the space in silence, linked only by an old air conditioner. As she has to leave, he awkwardly tries to keep her. Two lonely souls find solace in each other.

When I was shooting in Guangzhou, a friend invited me to his house. Just like what’s shown in the film, his old bedroom is separated horizontally into two rooms. There’s only one AC in the house, so to share the AC, a hole is punched, connecting the two rooms. The hole, I think, instantly made boring house romantic and intimate. The sound, the breath, and the presence of the person living in the higher room would flow, with the cold air, down to the lower room, and sensed by the other. This short film was thus made within 20 hours of time.
