Remote Mountain
Hu Jie • 2003
At 3,600 metres in Qinghai’s Qilian Mountains, miners survive by working dangerous small coal pits beneath the snow. In dark tunnels, flickering lamps illuminate lives sustained only by labor and necessity. They endure extreme hardship simply to survive; during filming, a mine owner’s bullet once whistled past the director.
