In 1957, more than two hundred “Rightists” were sent to a prison farm in Maitreya, Yunnan, for ideological reform. They endured the Great Leap Forward and Cultural Revolution before leaving after 1978. Through their experiences, the film revisits decades of political campaigns and forced transformation in modern China.
