
Shipei Wen
A director and screenwriter, he graduated from Heyuan High School and subsequently attended Shantou University and Columbia University in the City of New York, where he earned an MFA in Film Directing and Screenwriting. In 2015, his self-written and directed short film The Carpenter was selected for the Palm Springs International ShortFest. In 2016, he served as the Director of Photography for the short films Ping Pang and Iron Hand, marking two consecutive years of inclusion at the Tribeca Film Festival and winning the award for Best Narrative Short. His feature debut, Are You Lonesome Tonight?, was selected for the "Young Director Project" of the SIFF PROJECT at the 20th Shanghai International Film Festival, where it received the "Dirty Monkey 72 Transformations Film Project Special Mention." The project was also shortlisted for the Berlinale Talents Project Market at the 68th Berlin International Film Festival, winning the VFF Talent Highlight Award. Completed in 2021, the film was selected for the Special Screenings of the Official Selection at the 74th Festival de Cannes.
