I believe anxiety is the most common symptom of our generation, but the question is why this time it’s different. This is precisely the theme that “The Deer” aims to convey: unprovoked anxiety is our current state, as more and more problems remain unsolved, constantly lingering around us, turning into mindless thoughts that trouble us. I believe that film is life, so I draw from everyday life, making this film filled with reenactments and dramatizations. Most of the plot in the film also comes from my daily experiences and personal desires. This film also serves as a farewell to some of my past moments, those dull and long ones, which are part of our lives. I also believe that this is a completely different kind of everyday life on screen compared to modern China, one that discards cliches and stereotypes. And I want to say that this is what real life in China is like, or at least such a life exists. I hope this film can bring you some transcendental moments from everyday life, while conveying the inevitability of miracles and the certainty of disappointments.
