Story:
During the Spring Festival in 2013, artist Kong Delin, independent film director Gui Shuzhong and designer Yang Tao launched "QingMing Project" in the abandoned 5102 Arsenal in Lai She Village, Ninghua County. It activates the vitality of traditional culture today through documentaries, artistic creation and even direct intervention in restoring traditional culture and handicrafts. "QingMing Project" integrated paintings, material objects, installations and images. It not only retained the character of different types of art, but also used common themes as internal clues to make them connect and echo. It was a multidimensional experimental exhibition. However, it was not a thoughtful and step-by-step one from the beginning. This documentary records the preparatory process of "QingMing Project". From “A Record of Item Collecting” “A Record of the Sour Tea” “A Record of Moss Planting” “A Record of Dust Sweeping” “A Record of Reorganizing” “A Record of Projecting”, we can see how an art plan gradually turns into reality. The exhibition “Archaeologies of the Rural Present: Hakka Ninghua’s Origins, Customs and Artisanship” specially invited Kong Delin, Gui Shuzhong and Yang Tao to prepare again the “QingMing Project” and display it in the Ning family compound, to start another “Backtracking” original hometown creation and use the artistic language that they are good at to relocate their relationship with their hometown from the three dimensions of “Time” “Space” and “People”. "QingMing Project" is also an important supplement to the local narrative of Ninghua. This documentary is one of the video documents of "Qingming Project 2013-2024" retrospective exhibition.
