Director‘s Statement:
An initial exploration into the changes and dissemination paths of folk music culture in the frontier regions of Yunnan is conducted using methodologies from Ethnomusicology and Music Ethnographic Film. By restricting field research to a smaller social unit, this study intricately investigates the micro-forms of popular music and the lives of musicians. It reflects on issues of power and perspective in the traditional production of Music Ethnographic Film. An 'interventionist' approach in applied anthropology is employed, integrating the production of music ethnographic film into the application of film as a tool for social intervention in music communities. This not only emphasizes the documentary nature and cultural interpretation function of traditional music ethnographic film in music research but also highlights the mutual influence and transformation between the subjects and researchers. Furthermore, the continuous production of the film is expected to establish stable field relationships between scholars and locals, facilitating deeper, ongoing engagement with the evolving popular music scene through multiple revisits.
