Director‘s Statement:
Usually, under the influence of time, human beings will slowly age in the process of gradual decline in bodily functions, but this is only an objective performance in the eyes of the onlookers, and people who are really in the process are often unaware of it. In the process of gradual accumulation of uncertainties in life, these uncertainties may be transmuted at a certain moment, because of a small event. Thus, we are reminded to think about the meaning of life, to save ourselves from self-contradiction, and to try to accept the results that have existed for a long time but have been rejected by us. As Gil Deleuze says, in crossing from emotion to action, film contains an intermediate state that can be called impulse. In the primordial world derived from this intermediate state, human beings will show a primitive state close to biological instinct, that is, self-contradiction. In the movie, Lao Ma spends his days in the gulf between passive acceptance and subjective change, awkward and stubborn, and finally, in a moment of despair, he has an epiphany and accepts the fact that he is getting old.
