Hip-Hop Storm
Release Year:
2008
Story:
This is a documentary about two generations of hip-hop. It records Allen's journey to Paris, France to participate in the World Series from 2007 to 2008. During the period, in order to raise the travel expenses to Paris, even if he put down his body to teach and sing and dance, he did not hesitate, because "As a dancer, if I have never come to Paris once, I will leave regrets in my heart." The other storyline records the dance troupe of high school students named "Eight Kids" from the streets of Taipei. They are new humans born in the 90s, only half the age of Allen. The new generation of hip-hop teenagers does not have too much pressure from society to cast a strange perspective. Instead, they are appreciated and encouraged by people around them. What is dream? What impact did street dance have on them? The "eight kids" agreed a year ago that after finishing college entrance exams this year, they would return to the arena and face the upcoming street dance competition. Will they all be happy in the end and have a happy ending? So if they win the championship, will their lives change? Is it possible that the passionate dream of adolescence is only once, but only a summer dream? Perhaps all the last thoughts are like the team member YA said indifferently, "I feel that this summer is not in vain." "Hip-hop Frenzy" uses hip-hop souls of different generations to lead us into the hip-hop culture full of youth, passion and dreams. In short, keep dancing is right.

Director‘s Statement:
In the summer of 2007, I started my first feature-length documentary project, looking for young street dancers on the streets of Taipei. Alan is the subject I decided to shoot at the first sight. This person is very difficult to talk to. Most of the time, what he said is not a complete sentence, but from the look in his dancing eyes, it is indeed possible. I feel that even though he has been dancing for 17 years, he still retains his passion for dancing. Knowing that when he planned to go to France to participate in the World Street Dance Competition a year ago, he felt that it would be a long and challenging process for him, but he didn't seem to think too much. He said, "Always go!"
At the age of thirty-four, he rarely shows discouragement and discouragement in words. However, in Paris, because he put aside all the troubles of Taiwan, he suffered from insomnia at night because of thinking about his future. Pointing to the turntable of the grandmaster of hip-hop and asking myself: "I want to be successful like these dancers, but have these dancers succeeded? What do they do when they grow old? Sometimes, street dance makes me wonder, Is this right?"
Alan is a lone dancer, and there seem to be not many long-term partners in the journey of his dance career. At this turning point in his life, shooting his documentary may not get a glimpse of his dance career, but he is always shooting. In the process, I realized his lifestyle: there is no clear plan, but always keep enthusiasm!
The dance company "Eight Kids" can be regarded as one of the typical examples of the new generation of Taipei Street Youth Dance Group. Maybe their dance skills are not as good as the senior predecessors, but their passion for dancing and the friendship among the eight kids The mediocre adults retain more passion and dreams.
