Story:
The film, as a crystal of seven years observation and three years shooting, recounts the social changes of Xiaoluoshui, a Mosuo village by the side of Lugu Lake in Yunnan Province of China. With the emergence of commodity economy and tourism, obvious changes have been brought to the village within a few years. They rest not only on the surface, but also in people’s confusions, pains and paradoxes at the advent of the tremendous social reform.

Director‘s Statement:
I desired to make a film when I came back to China, may years later, for the first time. For me, my hometown seems a little bit strange. Many places in my childhood memories have already disappeared. The venues where I amused myself and played games with my companions have been replaced by a number of modern architectures and skyscrapers. I feel at a loss as if they were only to be sought in my reminiscence. At present, almost all the cities in China resemble each other more and more. With the overwhelming backdrop of economic development, a tendency of assimilation penetrates every corner of China. I hope to find in China a place that has not yet been thoroughly submerged in such a tendency and to record and analyze the process before or at the advent of the changes in order to present the gains and losses resulting from the changes.
