Director‘s Statement:
The reason for the creation is that when I was young, I always asked my mother how she came to Beijing to grow and take root, so she told me a dream-like past. This gives me the motivation to create. I hope that "Prairie Sisters" can give women real power, not to be attached to anyone, to break through themselves, to bravely face life and everything unknown, and to maintain curiosity. The age of the story is set between 1990 and 1999, and it is blurred, but in terms of controlling the details of space and structure, it is doing its best within its limited ability. It mainly embodies simplicity and sincerity, there are not many moving shots, and more emphasis is placed on the expression of true feelings in the performance. "Prairie Sisters" is a beautiful introduction to this series, and I hope there will be some ripples in our hearts.

Wu Wei directs a very entertaining film, managing, in just 21 minutes, to both highlight the main concept and to analyze her characters, through an approach that combines comedy and drama. As such, the short begins in comedic fashion, with the interaction in the salon being quite funny, the auditions being both funny and dramatic, and the heated talk between mother and daughters during the night being rather dramatic. It is this scene actually that the movie revolves around, with the dreams of the youths and the conservative patriarchy of the previous generation clashing rather harshly, in the most memorable sequence in the film.

I like the way Wu Wei delivers a simple story in an assured manner. The camera remains focused on the sisters, revealing their differences, complementarities and relationship with their mother. It is a hopeful message caught in beautiful natural frames
