Director‘s Statement:
Sex and desire are eternal topics of art, but there are few works that talk about the desires of the elderly. What does sex mean to the old? Love? Lust? Loneliness? Or just life itself? As a 24-year-old woman, I am too young to imagine the inner world of the old people. Therefore, I conducted a lot of field research, eventually found a place where old men and old women gather together to date each other, so called "Blind Date Corner". Based on such a place, I used the directing methods from both fiction films and non-fiction films and created this short film Rendezvous for the Old.
GAO Baifeng, the leading actor in my film, plays himself. The story of the film is adapted from his real story. In order to show what he is like in his real life, I have adopted some filming techniques of documentary. Meanwhile, I adopted a flat style in some shots, which visually collided with the documentary style to create an effect of defamiliarization.
