Beichuan, whose real name is Liu Mingfu, was born in Fangzao Village, Leigu Town, Beichuan Qiang Autonomous County, Mianyang City, Sichuan Province. He was orphaned by the Wenchuan earthquake in 2008. He was later accepted as an apprentice by photographer Jiao Bo. He followed Jiao Bo to learn photography and film documentaries for ten years. He was given the stage name "Beichuan" so that he will always remember his hometown. In 2012, Liu Mingfu followed Jiao Bo and spent 373 days stationed in Yimeng Mountain, Shandong. He filmed the documentary film "China in the Countryside". The film won 23 awards. Liu Mingfu became the youngest photographer of the Huabiao Award in China. In 2017, his documentary "Girl in a Wheelchair" won the best director award at Zhenjiang International Documentary Festival.
