Cui Zien was born in Harbin. He has a Master of Arts degree from the Graduate School of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, an associate professor at the Beijing Film Academy, a well-known writer, director, and gay activist. In May 1997, published the first gay novel "Peachy Lips" in Mainland China. In 2001, his novel "Uncle's Fireworks" won the "Deutsche Welle Literary Award". At the same time, he is also a representative of Chinese gay independent films, his representative works include "Old Testament", "Harlequin Appears", "Queer China" and so on.
