Director Jianya Zhang was born in China, Fujian. In 1992, the comedy film "SanMao Joins The Army" written and directed by Zhang Jianya was released, and won the Outstanding Director Award at the 6th China Film Tongniu Award and was nominated for the Best Director at the 13th China Film Golden Rooster Award. In 1994, he won the Best Director Award at the 1st China Huabiao Film Awards for his comedy film “Narrow Escape”. In 2002, the thriller action film “Red Snow” directed by him was released. In 2006, he directed the TV series "Zhenguan Zhizhi" for the first time. In 2007, the romantic comedy film “Call For Love” directed by him was released in mainland China. In 2011, he served as the chief director of the new version of "Journey to the West". In 2012, he directed the biographical film "Hsue-shen Tsien". He directed the documentary film “Dr. Chan Cheng”. In 2023, he served as the art consultant for the TV series “Blossoms Shanghai”.
