Yu Li graduated from Shandong Normal University, Bachelor in Chinese Literature in 1996. At the same year, her documentary “Sister” won Grand Prix at the All China Documentary Society. In 2001, her debut “Fish and Elephant” won Elvira Notari Prize at the Venice International Film Festival and Best Asian Film Prize at the Berlin International Film Festival. Her feature “Dam Street” won more awards including CICAE Prix Art ET ESSAI Prize and Standard Reader’s Jury Prize at the Venice International Film Festival in 2005. Feature “Lost in Beijing” was officially selected by the Berlin International Film Festival in 2007 and “Buddha Mountain” won Best Actress at the Tokyo International film festival in 2010. Feature “Double Xposure” was the official selection at the Tokyo International Film Festival in 2012.
