Born and raised in Beijing, Tao Liu received her undergraduate degree in finance and went to the U.S. to study MFA in film directing; for her, film is the best medium for personal expression and visual communication, and she believes that images have a greater inclusiveness and a wider semantic interpretation. The themes of Tao Liu's work are mainly about death, memories, trauma and bonds within families, the subtleties and nuances of human emotions, and the plight of urban people's spiritual lives. Her stories are fascinated by the portrayal of human emotions, capturing those delicate, precious, fleeting moments and beautiful, fragile relationships.
