Wang Bing
Wang Bing
Wang Bing is one of the most influential Chinese filmmakers working today. His documentaries are long-durational chronicles of the radical socioeconomic transformations that have taken place in China since the turn of the century. The human cost of dismantling the agrarian model that sustained the country for decades and replacing it with the current state-sponsored capitalism is the main background for his films. A parallel with Kraftwerk’s own history is established through the architectural portrait depicted in the first part of his 2002 film West of the Tracks. This chapter titled Rust is centered on the material and social realities of the industrial district of Tiexi in Shenyang.
