ZHANG Tongdao

ZHANG Tongdao is Director of the Documentary Studies Center at Beijing Normal University and Professor in its School of Arts and Media. He serves as Chairman of the Film and Television Education Committee of the China Higher Education Association and President of the China Documentary Development Foundation. Zhang has been a visiting scholar at New York University and UCLA. He has judged at major festivals including China’s Golden Eagle TV Festival, Sichuan TV Festival, Shanghai TV Festival, Guangzhou International Documentary Festival, and the Doha International Documentary Festival. He has led more than 30 national and ministry-level research projects in arts and education. His major academic works include Media Chronicle: Observing Chinese Television, Masters of the Image, The Landscape of Reality, and Documentary Time-Space of Pluralistic Coexistence. His key film credits include the feature documentaries A Miniature World and Post-00s, and the series Secrets of Growing Up, Cinema’s View of China, Memories of the Bei Family Garden, and Homelands of Literature. He has received awards at the Doha Documentary Festival, Sichuan TV Festival, and the US–China Film Festival.
