Zhao Dayong lives in New York. He started out as a painter, and turn to directing commercials from the late 1990s. He became an independent film maker in 2004, making both documentaries and feature films. His first documentary "Street Life"(南京路)was made in 2007, followed in 2008 by the documentary "Ghost Town"(废城) and in 2010 the documentary "My Father's House". Also in 2010 he directed the feature film "The High Life”(寻欢作乐), and the experimental short film "Rough Poetry”(下流诗歌). These were followed in 2014 with the "Shadow Days"(鬼日子”. His works have often been shortlisted for international film festivals and received international awards.
