Director‘s Statement:
I read so many ridiculous incidents in news in recent years. Counterfeit doctors, phony rich, fake veterans and even artificial beauties deceive people for money because of greed. I want to make fun of these things happening in our society so I chose to approach the topic with black humor. I didn’t specifically go for theatre actors when I cast, but they are all great actors who are capable of conveying drama even without saying a line. I welcomed their improvisations on set, so I was able to capture the quirky humor arose from realistic conditions, which I value over intensity. The film could be much more flashy and faster-paced but I chose to let it flow smoothly. I think you have to make a film that is interesting, be it arthouse or commercial. It could be only open to your own wild interpretations, but that is not what I want my film to be for now. It’s good people no longer categorize Chinese filmmakers by “generation”. I think “now” is the best time for any generation. I consider myself quite lucky.
